Total cares about people, the community and the environment
Total South Africa is committed to development that is sustainable throughout our business. This begins with the development of our employees and extends to the communities around our operations, depots, service stations and more. It also encompasses our entire value chain of products and services, with our view on development that is both environmentally friendly and customer-centric.
Corporate Social Investment
Total South Africa is on a mission to fuel long-term sustainable growth. Our ambition is to become the responsible Energy Major, contributing to better energy, socio-economic development and upliftment in the communities in which we operate.
The social needs facing our country are substantial and it is a moral duty for big business to make a difference by supporting projects that benefit historically disadvantaged sectors of our society. We are a global leader making a difference through dedicated CSI initiatives in the following key areas: Youth Inclusion & Education, Climate & Environment, Cultural Dialogue & Heritage, Road Safety and Enterprise Development.
With Corporate Social Investment (CSI) becoming ever more strategically focused, it also makes sense for businesses to align their corporate social investment spend with their core business objectives and imperatives. It is through long-term partnerships forged with Non-Profit Organisations, Government, our suppliers, customers and other corporates with a shared vision, that we are able to move CSI out of the charitable sphere into one in which a meaningful change which has a positive and sustainable impact on our beneficiaries is realised.
Through our Employee Volunteer Programme, we also support our employees who are involved in community volunteer work and encourage all employees to experience the personal rewards of giving their time and talents.

Central to its manpower programme is Total's commitment to the attraction, development and retention of high-calibre personnel from all communities. Major stake-holder involvement ensures participation and transparency throughout the critical phases of the process. This process has been accelerated in recent years and has crystalised into a structured policy of positive career development for people who were disadvantaged because of colour, gender of physical handicaps.
The socio-economic empowerment of the previously disadvantaged communities remains a specific focus in respect of allocating trading sites. Apart from placement of AA appointments at all levels in the company, several existing Black employees have either advanced to senior positions or are placed in suitable jobs through career planning and development.
Outside the company
