Since its inception in 2003, entries to the My Dream Park Competition have increased from 20 in the first year to over 500 in 2007. While the competition enables TOTAL South Africa to help beautify historically disadvantaged areas, it also teaches children the value of caring for the environment and instils in them a sense of ownership of public places.
This project is sponsored in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks as the greening Agency of the city of Johannesburg. It is an initiative to extend the greening and beautification of the environment in primary schools. The competition aims to make learners aware of the social, ecological and economical benefit of parks in their local environment. It also encourages learners to explore their innovative skills by developing a dream park in their school environment. This is a noteworthy project, which addresses a pressing need among disadvantaged schools.
