My Acre of Africa

My Acre of Africa was formed in 2001 in partnership with the South African National Parks (SANParks).  My Acre of Africa is an initiative that is building an endowment fund for conservation and education purposes. This will help supplement depleted conservation budgets in the Southern African region. Since 2005, TOTAL South Africa has donated R7, 5 million to My Acre of Africa. Conservation projects that have benefited include:

  • Anti-poaching programmes,
  • Protection of endangered species,
  • Conservation-linked community projects,
  • Wildlife translocation.

Although the Kruger National Park is South Africa's largest game reserve and provides ample opportunity for experiential environmental education, most of the children living in the villages along the borders of the Kruger Park have not had an opportunity to visit the park owing to financial constraints. In response to this challenge, My Acre of Africa established an environmental education programme to provide school learners with high quality educational facilities and environmental learning programmes, teaching them to care about and preserve their living heritage. The Kids in Kruger project is being run entirely within the National Environmental Education Programme curriculum framework developed by the South African Department of Education. This project is a conservation and environmental education initiative aimed at securing the future of Southern Africa's wildlife and wild places, for the joy and benefit of future generations.

The purpose is to bring local children and their teachers into the park on educational trips that incorporate history, culture, tourism and the environment in a holistic and experiential way. By supporting My Acre of Africa, TOTAL South Africa aims to educate the country's youth about the principles of environmental conservation and importance of preserving a living legacy fo
