TOTAL has recently become involved in an inspiring World Wide Fund initiative that aims to relieve poverty while at the same time protect endangered seabirds.
Ocean View is a coastal community in the Southern Peninsula with a high level of unemployment. As a subsistence fishing community, their livelihoods were threatened with the demise of subsistence fish stocks in the nearby coastal village of Kommetjie. Eager to change their situation, the Ocean View Association for the Disabled offered their services to WWF to work together towards more responsible fishing practices. Now, handicapped people from the Ocean View community are able to assist WWF and contribute to a conservation project that protects endangered seabirds.
